Solaris to deliver 30 electric buses to Gdańsk
Back to press releases

Representatives of Solaris Bus & Coach and the Municipality of Gdańsk have signed a contract for the delivery of 30 electric buses. The order includes 18 units of 12-metre vehicles and 12 articulated Solaris Urbino 18 electric buses. The zero-emission fleet will be operated by Gdańskie Autobusy i Tramwaje.

According to the agreement, the buses will be delivered to Gdańsk by September next year. The Solaris Urbino 12 electric models ordered by ZTM Gdańsk will be equipped with 600 kWh batteries, while the articulated versions will feature energy storage systems with a capacity of as much as 800 kWh. This level of capacity will ensure high operability on a single charge, which will be carried out using a plug-in connector. Each vehicle will be fitted with two charging sockets: one located above the front right wheel arch and the other on the left side of the bus. This solution will facilitate daily maintenance and charging at the depot.

The Solaris Urbino electric buses destined for Gdańsk are the latest models in the producer’s portfolio, featuring a modular drive system that allows the placement of drive components on the roof, eliminating the need for a traditional engine tower. This solution optimizes passenger space and increases capacity. The 12-metre models will carry up to 70 passengers, while the articulated versions will accomodate as many as 107 passengers.

The buses ordered by ZTM Gdańsk will be fully low-floor and air-conditioned. They will comply with all the latest safety standards, including GSR2 requirements and cybersecurity regulations. Key systems include driver distraction and fatigue monitoring, pedestrian and cyclist warning systems, and cyclists detection in the vehicle’s blind spot. In addition, the buses will be equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, such as an intelligent speed assistant and modern electric mirrors, enhancing both safety and user comfort.

Solaris’ cooperation with Gdańsk dates back to 1997. The company last delivered its buses to the Pomeranian capital in 2009. This time, for the very first time, passengers in Gdańsk will experience the comfort of Solaris’ zero-emission buses.
