This time, 10 articulated Solaris Trollino 18 trolleybuses will be delivered to the French city. The order marks another milestone in a partnership that began in 2019. Following the deliveries, scheduled for late 2027, a total of 41 Solaris trolleybuses will be operating on the streets of Saint-Étienne.
Solaris has signed a contract to supply 10 articulated Trollino 18 trolleybuses to Saint-Étienne Métropole. The vehicles will join the existing Solaris fleet operating in the local public transport network. Deliveries are scheduled for late 2027, as part of yet another order placed with the manufacturer by the French metropolitan authority.
The new 18-metre Trollino trolleybuses will be powered by a 250 kW traction motor. The vehicles will also be equipped with batteries, enabling them to operate on sections without overhead wires. On board, cameras will replace traditional exterior rear-view mirrors. Safety will be enhanced by a range of systems, including driver fatigue and distraction monitoring, intelligent speed assistance, lane change assistance, and pedestrian and cyclist detection. The trolleybuses will also feature the eSConnect remote diagnostics system, supporting ongoing fleet monitoring and maintenance.
Saint-Étienne has been developing its trolleybus network for years as part of its commitment to zero-emission urban mobility. The latest contract for 10 Trollino 18 trolleybuses marks another step in the long-standing cooperation between the metropolitan authority and Solaris. The manufacturer received its first order in 2019. In the following years, a total of 23 twelve-metre Trollino trolleybuses were delivered to the operator. The next stage of fleet development came in 2025, with the delivery of 8 articulated Trollino 18 trolleybuses. The latest order will bring the total number of Solaris trolleybuses operating in Saint-Étienne to 41. These vehicles now form an important part of the city's zero-emission public transport network.
