Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. has signed an agreement with a Norwegian operator Norgessbuss AS, based in Oslo, for the delivery of five city buses. This recent deal means that Norway has become the 16th export market Solaris. Five
Five Solaris Urbino 10 buses will be delivered to the customer in August of this year. Similarly to the vehicles recently sold to Swedish operators, the Oslo-bound Solaris buses will feature a special „Scandinavian pack”, fitted to make the vehicles more suitable to the harsh climate conditions in the area. This includes special-design doors, a floor heating system and external lamps over passenger entrances. The buses for Norgessbuss AS will be also fitted with alcolock detectors which operate on a similar principle to alcohol detectors as used by the police during roadside checks. Should alcohol be detected in the air breathed out by the driver, the vehicle will be immobilized.
This most recent contract to supply buses to the customer in Norway means that the group of Solaris markets has now grown to sixteen. Currently Solaris Urbino buses and Solaris Trollino trolley buses operate in various cities in: Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland. Norway will be added to these markets shortly.
“The expansion to new export markets is a key element of our company strategy. Currently exports account for nearly 80% of the Solaris sales overall. I do hope that before the end of this year more export markets will be added to the Solaris portfolio. But, obviously, maintaining good relations with the existing Solaris bus and trolley bus users is equally important to establishing our presence on new markets”, said Krzysztof Olszewski, Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. chairman and chief executive, upon signing the contract with the Norwegian customer.
