Solaris joins Transport 2011 at the Norway Trade Fair exhibition centre in Lillestrøm, near the capital Oslo, to show its latest offer for eco-friendly and sustainable urban and interurban transport. Presented on the stand will be two buses from recent deliveries to Norwegian customers.

An articulated Solaris Urbino 18 Hybrid is one of five such vehicles entering service in Oslo from 1 October 2011, together with ten 12-metre hybrids and 16 new conventional diesel buses. Joining the fleet of Unibuss, they will operate city services on behalf of Ruter transport authority. The Urbino 18 Hybrid has a parallel hybrid system developed and supplied by Allison Transmission, combining a 181 kW EEV-standard diesel engine with two 75 kW electric motors. Power supply is shared between diesel and electric engines for ideal performance, with energy recuperated during braking storied in on-board batteries, ready to boost subsequent acceleration. Independent tests according to UITP's SORT standards confirm a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 24%. Emissions are reduced by up to 78%, making the Urbino 18 Hybrid the perfect choice for the environment.

Solaris’s second bus at Transport 2011, a Solaris Alpino 8.9 LE midibus, is part of Unibuss’s fleet in Vestfold. Using the low-entry concept, which combines step-free entrances with comfortable forward-facing seats in the rear of the bus, this versatile midibus is suited to both city services and interurban routes. With a vehicle length of only 8.9 m and a narrow width of 2.4 m, there is nevertheless room for up to 27 fixed seats plus another four tip-up seats, resulting in class-leading capacity and comfort.

Solaris has been active in Norway since 2006 and is represented by its subsidiary, Solaris Norge AS. Within just five years, almost 250 buses were sold to customers throughout the country, making Solaris one of the major players on the Norwegian market. New deliveries this year include 31 buses for Unibuss’s Oslo operations as well as six articulated Urbino 18 which Nettbuss will use on airside duties at Oslo-Gardermoen airport.

During Transport 2011 exhibition, there will be a press conference on 8 September 2011, 3pm, on the Solaris stand C01-02. Representatives of Solaris Bus & Coach and Solaris Norge will be on hand to present the company’s development and news.
