MZA Warsaw expands electric fleet with 50 more articulated Solaris buses
Back to press releases

Representatives of Solaris Bus & Coach and Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe (MZA) in Warsaw have signed a contract for the purchase of 50 articulated battery buses. This marks another order for Solaris electric vehicles placed by MZA in recent weeks. Deliveries of the newly acquired buses are scheduled for the second half of 2026.

Warsaw continues its efforts to reduce emissions from public transport. Following a recent decision to procure 79 Solaris battery buses, the city’s public transport operator has awarded the producer yet another contract. The agreement signed today covers 50 articulated electric buses featuring modular drive systems.

The Solaris Urbino 18 electric is an articulated city bus powered by electricity and distinguished by its modular drive architecture. The distributed layout of the drive components eliminates the need for a traditional engine tower, thereby maximizing passenger space. Additionally, the roof space saved allows for all batteries to be mounted there. Each bus destined for Warsaw will be equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries with a capacity exceeding 700 kWh, charged via a plug-in connector.

The partnership between Solaris and MZA Warsaw dates back to 1997. Over the past decade, the city’s operator has consistently expanded its battery-powered fleet. To date, Solaris has delivered 1,350 buses to MZA Warsaw, including 163 electric units. Upon completion of the two latest orders, a total of almost 300 modern, zero-emission Solaris Urbino electric buses will be operating on the streets of Poland’s capital.
