100 buses for MZA Warsaw
Back to press releases

On 28, February, 2007, a new sales contract between the Warsaw municipal transportation company, MZA, and Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. was signed: by the end of June, 2007, 100 Solaris Urbino 18, valuing 110 million PLN

(28 million €), will be delivered to Warsaw. Also on that day, the first of 50 new, air-conditioned Solaris Urbino 12, ordered in January this year, was presented.

The offer presented by Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. from Bolechowo near Poznań has come out on top in MZA‘s public tender. On 28, February, 2007, at 11.30 am, an official contract was signed on the premises of the transportation company. MZA was represented by their chairman, Roman Podsiadły, the producer by Solange and Krzysztof Olszewski, the owners of Solaris Bus & Coach.

This is already the second contract between MZA and Solaris Bus & Coach in the year 2007. In January, an agreement concerning the delivery of 50 low-floor city buses Solaris Urbino 12 was signed.

“This year has started off very well for us on the Polish market. Already in the first quarter, the delivery of 150 city buses is a definite fact, and the capital‘s carrier has announced further investments for this year.” - comments Krzysztof Olszewski, president of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A.

According to the contract, all 100 articulated buses will go into operation in the streets of Warsaw before the end of the second quarter. At the end of April, the 50 shorter Urbinos will take up operation there. Through this forthcoming purchase at Solaris Bus & Coach S.A., the MZA fleet will count among the most modern, with the most low-floor city buses in the capital.

Since production started in 1996 until the end of 2006, the Bolechowo-based bus manufacturer has delivered 351 buses to the Warsaw transportation company. At the beginning of 2007 alone, another 150 vehicles from the Greater Poland voivodeship are added.

“I‘m very glad that the passengers in our capital are transported more and more often with passenger-friendly, safe low-floor buses. I‘m particularly proud of the fact that these are primarily our - Polish - buses. A well-functioning public transportation system with a modern fleet of vehicles, I think, is the best calling card of any city.” - says Solange Olszewski, vice president of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A.

Solaris Urbino 12

The first of 50 Solaris Urbino 12 for MZA was presented in Warsaw on the 28th of February. This series of vehicles is optionally equipped with an air conditioning plant in the passenger area. This solution has proved itself in the previous shipment of Solaris 18 about a year ago. In addition, one of the new features in the Urbino 12 is the video surveillance system, and a passenger counting device. The four cameras mounted in the passenger area will soon provide for a raised level of safety of the passengers and bus drivers in Warsaw. The continuous recordings are stored on a hard drive for a period of time and, depending on requirements, reused or deleted. Ten of the 50 Urbino 12 buses are equipped with a passenger counting system. Through this, the carrier gets access to detailed data concerning the passenger turnover, helping him to improve his operation management. The new buses comply with the strict Euro4 exhaust emission standard.
