In a ceremony in the historic centre of Gdańsk, Solaris Bus & Coach has handed over 45 Urbino low floor buses to Gdańsk City Transport Company. The new Solaris make Gdańsk’s bus fleet the youngest in Poland.
The handover in front of Gdańsk’s theatre completes the delivery of 15 rigid Solaris Urbino 12 and 30 articulated Solaris Urbino 18. The contract had been signed in October 2008.
All of the new Solaris Urbino for Gdańsk are fitted with low-emission engines fulfilling the demanding Euro 5 emissions standard, making them a clear benefit to the environment and contributing to the sustainability of public transport in the Baltic port city. Passengers and drivers alike benefit from air-conditioning, while latest CCTV monitoring systems ensure safety for everyone on board.
"We are delighted with the ongoing cooperation with Gdańsk City Transport Company, which dates back to 1997. It is an honour that Gdańsk has once again chosen state-of-the-art Solaris buses and we are proud to confirm the trust drivers and passengers alike have placed in us over the past years," said Solaris Bus & Coach CEO Solange Olszewska.
"The 45 new Solaris Urbino bring down the average age of the Gdańsk bus fleet to 6.7 years. This means that the citizen of Gdańsk now benefit from the youngest bus fleet in Poland, while we are able to retire the last step-entrance buses," illustrated Jerzy Zgliczyński, managing director of Gdańsk City Transport Company.
With the batch of Solaris Urbino city buses now delivered, Gdańsk City Transport operates 122 low floor buses built by Solaris in Bolechowo, all of which offer their passengers step-free easy access and highest standards of comfort.
