Solaris strengthens its position in the Netherlands – 55 electric buses for Transdev
Back to press releases

Transdev Nederland has once again placed an order for Solaris vehicles. The manufacturer will deliver a total of 55 zero-emission battery-electric buses. The contract includes both the shortest electric bus in the Solaris portfolio – the Urbino 9 LE electric – and the longest, double-articulated vehicle – the Urbino 24 electric. Deliveries are scheduled for summer 2026.

Under the agreement, Solaris will supply 42 Urbino 9 LE electric buses and 13 double-articulated Urbino 24 electric units to the Netherlands. Starting from the second half of 2026, the vehicles will operate services under the new Arnhem-Nijmegen-Foodvalley (ANF) concession, covering the cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen as well as the Foodvalley region. The concession was awarded to Transdev by the Province of Gelderland, which oversees public transport in the area.

Transdev Nederland is one of the largest operators in the Netherlands and a leader in zero-emission public transport. For this order, the company opted for both the smallest and largest models in Solaris’s electric range. The compact Urbino 9 LE electric, equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries with a capacity of over 400 kWh, will serve routes connecting smaller towns. Meanwhile, the high-capacity 24-metre Urbino 24 electric, featuring High Energy batteries with a capacity of over 500 kWh, will ensure efficient and emission-free transport in the region’s busiest transit corridors. The entire fleet will be supported by eSConnect, Solaris’s fleet management and monitoring system.

Located in the heart of Gelderland, the Arnhem-Nijmegen-Foodvalley region is a densely populated area where public transport plays a key role in residents’ daily lives.

Solaris has long been strengthening its position as a leading supplier of zero-emission buses in the Netherlands. In 2021, Urbino 12 hydrogen buses joined the fleet in Gelderland as part of the EU co-funded JIVE2 programme. Solaris vehicles are also well known to Transdev Nederland: the operator runs 20 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses in South Holland, while in Arnhem 10 Trollino 18 trolleybuses with MetroStyle design have been in service for a year. In 2024, Solaris was also selected by Transdev as the supplier of 96 electric buses for Utrecht.
