Today representatives of the city council of Satu Mare in Romania and the company of Solaris Bus & Coach signed a contract. In a public tender, the municipal operator selected the supplier of 11 hybrid buses. These will be Solaris Urbino 12 hybrids which, pursuant to the contract, shall be delivered in the second half of 2020.
Concurrently to the order for eleven 12-meter hybrid Urbinos, the parties signed a framework agreement which allows for the extension of collaboration in the future, regarding the supply of four more Solaris Urbino 12 hybrid and two articulated Solaris Urbino 18 hybrid buses.
The twelve-meter buses of Solaris for Satu Mare will be fitted with a serial hybrid drive consisting of an electric motor of 120 kW and a diesel engine of 151 kW. They will also feature supercapacitors that make it possible to store and then use recuperated energy.
The buses will be equipped with a Stop & Go feature that controls the diesel engine operation: it turns off the engine when the bus halts at bus stops, and it turns it on again once the vehicle sets off. It allows for a considerable reduction of emissions and of fuel consumption (compared to vehicles with a conventional drive).
The Solaris Urbino 12 hybrids will be adapted to carry a maximum of 96 persons with seats available to 31 of them. For the passengers’ travel convenience, the public transport vehicles for Satu Mare will have air conditioning and video surveillance increasing the safety of travellers. As the vehicles are furnished with a passenger counting system, the operator will have access to information on the number of persons frequenting particular routes.
The delivery of hybrid buses to Satu Mare will be the first performed by Solaris for that city. However, cooperation with operators in Romania actually dates back to 2002. Since then, Solaris has supplied nearly 250 buses and trolleybuses to Romanian cities, including over 40 buses with electric drives to Cluj-Napoca.
