Warsaw’s public transport operator, MZA, has exercised the option to extend last year’s order for electric buses. Under the contract signed in September 2025, the operator ordered 79 vehicles. The order has now been expanded by an identical batch: 50 Urbino 18 electric buses and 29 Urbino 12 electric buses.
The public transport operator in Warsaw, MZA (Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe) decided to use the so-called contract extension option included in the agreement concluded in September 2025 with the manufacturer Solaris Bus & Coach. The capital city operator has ordered a further 79 electric buses: 50 articulated Urbino 18 electric and 12-metre Urbino 12 electric buses. The entire order therefore covers the delivery of 158 zero-emission battery buses.
The newly ordered buses will be prepared based on a specification twin to that of the vehicles ordered a few months earlier. These will be buses without the traditional engine tower, based on a modular drive system architecture. The e-buses will be powered by batteries with a capacity of over 500 kWh in the 12-metre models and over 700 kWh in the 18-metre models. Charging will be carried out using a plug-in connection. Deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2027.
Warsaw is among the European leaders in terms of the number of zero-emission buses in operation. To date, Solaris has delivered 163 e-buses to the Polish capital, and is currently fulfilling several orders for MZA covering a total of 208 zero-emission Urbino electric buses.
