20 new Urbino 18 electric buses for Szczecin

The City of Szczecin has signed a contract with Solaris for the delivery of 20 articulated Urbino 18 electric buses. The zero-emission vehicles will be delivered to Szczecin’s public transport operator SPAK in 2027-2028 and will be based at the company’s depot on Klonowica Street.

Representatives of the City of Szczecin and Solaris Bus & Coach have signed a contract for the delivery of 20 zero-emission articulated Urbino 18 electric buses. The vehicles will be operated by SPAK and stationed at the operator’s depot on Klonowica Street in Szczecin.

Each of the ordered vehicles will be equipped with an efficient electric drive and Solaris High Energy batteries. The batteries will be charged both via a plug-in connection and by means of a pantograph, enabling opportunity charging at terminal stops. This configuration will ensure sufficient range and operational flexibility to serve even the most demanding and longest urban and suburban routes in Szczecin.

The Urbino 18 electric buses will be able to carry up to 120 passengers. Each vehicle will offer 35 seats, including 11 accessible directly from the low floor. The buses will be air-conditioned and equipped with a passenger information system as well as a range of driver assistance solutions designed to enhance safety and driver comfort. These will include the Moving Off Information System (MOIS), the Blind Spot Information System (BSIS), the Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) system, and Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning systems (DDAW/ADDW). An interesting feature will be the installation of photovoltaic panels designed to support the power supply of auxiliary systems, particularly while the vehicles are waiting at terminal stops. As part of the order, Szczecin has also opted for eSConnect, Solaris’ proprietary solution for remote fleet diagnostics and monitoring.

Solaris has been supplying buses for Szczecin’s public transport system for many years. To date, nearly 200 Solaris vehicles have been delivered to the city, including 34 electric buses and 17 hybrid buses. Recently, the City of Szczecin also ordered 12 articulated Urbino 18 mild hybrid buses. The newly ordered electric buses will be delivered to Szczecin in 2027-2028. Solaris is also currently manufacturing 44 contracted hybrid buses for the operator SPAD, with deliveries likewise scheduled for 2027-2028.
