Three more Solaris buses receive EPD declarations

Solaris has obtained Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for three modular-drive electric bus models: the Solaris Urbino 10,5 electric, Solaris Urbino 12 electric, and Solaris Urbino 18 electric. These verified datasets cover the entire vehicle life cycle, enabling precise measurement of the vehicles’ environmental impact at every stage – from emissions and energy consumption to recycling. The manufacturer continues to consistently expand the environmental transparency of its portfolio. Three other Solaris models have already been awarded EPD labels.

An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is an internationally recognized, independently verified environmental label designed to provide reliable information about a product’s environmental impact – from raw material extraction and production, through operation, to end-of-life treatment. Solaris has obtained EPDs for three modular-drive electric models: the Urbino 10,5 electric, Urbino 12 electric, and Urbino 18 electric. The documents were developed in accordance with ISO 14025 standards and the Product Category Rules requirements for city and intercity buses.

The basis for preparing an EPD is a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the detailed scope of which covers the entire vehicle life cycle – from raw material extraction and component manufacturing, through production processes and transport, to operation, servicing, and end-of-life treatment. The analysis also takes into account, among other factors, energy consumption during operation as well as the impact of the energy mix in the country where the bus is operated on the overall environmental footprint. The resulting data helps identify areas requiring optimization – both in the supply chain and in manufacturing processes, as well as in the energy efficiency of the vehicles.

The new EPDs confirm the high recyclability level of Solaris buses, which, depending on the model, ranges from approximately 96% to nearly 98%. These results highlight the vehicles’ potential within the circular economy and their limited environmental impact throughout the entire life cycle.

Environmental Product Declarations are an important tool supporting transparency and environmental responsibility in the public transport sector. They enable operators to make purchasing decisions not only based on technical parameters or costs, but also on the actual environmental impact of vehicles throughout their life cycle.

Similar documents have already been awarded to the Urbino 18 hydrogen, Urbino 18 electric, and Urbino 12 hybrid models. The systematic expansion of the list of Solaris buses holding EPDs forms part of the company’s broader sustainability strategy and its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its products.
