Solaris wins a major electric bus tender in the Czech Republic

Solaris has submitted the most advantageous bid in an electric bus tender in Ostrava. Under the agreement signed with Dopravní podnik Ostrava a.s., the manufacturer will supply up to 70 Urbino 12 electric buses. Deliveries are scheduled for 2027–2028.

In recent days, Solaris signed a contract with Dopravní podnik Ostrava a.s. for the delivery of up to 70 twelve-metre electric buses. It is one of the largest electric bus tenders completed to date in the Czech Republic and, at the same time, one of the largest vehicle purchases in the history of the Ostrava-based operator. The first contracted Solaris Urbino 12 electric buses may appear on the streets of Ostrava as early as 2027.

The order covers two variants of twelve-metre battery-electric buses, designed for different transport tasks. The vehicles will differ in battery capacity and, consequently, in range. The first variant will be able to travel up to 350 kilometres on a single charge, while the second will offer a range of up to 250 kilometres. This solution will allow the operator to match the vehicles to the requirements of individual routes and planned operational tasks.

The batteries will be charged via a plug-in connection, primarily during overnight stops at the depot. All vehicles will be equipped with air conditioning, advanced safety systems and standard solutions enhancing passenger comfort.

Solaris vehicles are well known to the residents of Ostrava. To date, more than 450 buses and trolleybuses of the brand have been delivered to the Czech city. In 2021, DPO ordered 24 Urbino 12 electric buses together with charging infrastructure. It was Solaris’s first contract for electric buses in the Czech Republic. The latest agreement for the delivery of up to 70 additional vehicles continues this long-standing cooperation and will significantly increase the scale of zero-emission bus transport in Ostrava.
